Asbestos surveys

The asbestos legislation reform that came into effect in 2016 requires an asbestos survey to be conducted in all renovations and demolition work carried out in buildings constructed before 1994— including single-family homes. The survey determines whether asbestos or other potential harmful substances are present in the building materials and where these harmful substances are located. The builder must arrange for the asbestos survey.

The person conducting the asbestos survey is required to have adequate knowledge of asbestos, its occurrence, and building demolition, as well as the professional expertise necessary for the quality and scope of the planned survey.
